The New Morning Paper

Il en est un plus laid, plus méchant, plus immonde!
Quoiqu’il ne pousse ni grands gestes ni grands cris,
Il ferait volontiers de la terre un débris
Et dans un bâillement avalerait le monde;

C’est l’Ennui! – l’oeil changé d’un pleur involontaire,
Il rêve d’échafauds en fumant son houka.i

Citizens of Bitcoin look at the world a little differently than Citizens of Fiat. We don’t see deflation as a problem, we see it as a solution. We prefer to buy knowledge instead of buying new flatscreens. We spend our evenings making paper wallets instead of ordering Jägerbombs at the hockey game. Still, Citizens of Bitcoin and Citizens of Fiat share a general curiosity about the world and need reliable sources of information with which to inform themselves.

Citizens of Fiat look to local newspapers, replete with bias-affirming “journalists” breaking “stories”,ii  most of which involve people dying in car accidents, houses burning down, and other such normal things sensationalized into “must read material.” For Citizens of Bitcoin, those daring enough to have their ideas challenged, that shit’s inane. We know this.

So for Citizens of Bitcoin, other than WBMP, where can we find daily doses of enlightenment and enjoyment?

CoinDesk? /r/Bitcoin? Bitcointalk? Some third-rate wannabe like CoinReport or a garbage-aggregator like Mostly Bitcoin? That stuff’s fine for the illiterate webgen that needs Shakespeare explained in a 3-panel comic, but we can do better. Self-referential though this may be, let’s listen to the advice of one of the gents in the land of IRC:

nubbins`: http://log.bitcoin-assets.com is the morning newspaper for happenings in this spaceiii

That’s it. No more searching required. So grab your coffee and your bagel and pull up a chair.

If you’re reading anything else, you’re drugging yourself with Ennui.

  1. “One creature only is the most foul and false! Though making no grand gestures, nor great cries, He willingly would devastate the earth And in one yawning swallow all the world; He is Ennui! – with tear-filled eye he dreams of scaffolds, as he puffs his water-pipe.” From Beaudelaire’s To The Reader, translation by James McGowan.
  2. Though not exactly local, inept excuses for human beings like Leah Goodman of Newsweek/Satoshi fame are certainly lumped in with this lot.
