Sergio Marchionne’s Day Off and the Ferrari F150

Ferris Bueller is famous for taking a day off to sit back, gain some perspective, and enjoy life. He’s been immortalized by popular culture for his care-free nonchalance and devil-may-care attitude. But Ferris’ irreverence wasn’t the only star of the movie, there was also the small matter of the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT with which he co-starred.

And speaking of Ferraris and Days Off, let’s take a peek at Ferrari’s new Formula 1 car for the 2011 season. It was just revealed today and it’s called the F150 in recognition of the best selling vehicle in the entire world, the Ford F-150. Or it could be named after the 150th anniversary of Italy’s unity, it’s tough to say.

The people who attend these kinds of affairs are the who’s who, such as Sergio Marchionne, who graciously took a day off from stealing Chrysler to attending the proceedings. You’ll notice the Italian-Canadian CEO around 0:06, 0:10, 0:12, and then sprinkled liberally thereafter.

Look! It’s a flock of Formula 1 drivers! Ok, just two of them. Maybe more like a gander, then. Still, it appears that they are doing something other than sitting in a seat and doing loopty-loops around a circuit. Hmm, perhaps their job is more difficult than I once thought. Or than Top Gear’s Richard Hammond once thought…

If Fernando Alonso could reign in an F1 car with a 1000hp V10, and he did, the new F150 should be a walk in the park.

Stay tuned for more F1 news as we count down the days to the 2011 season.
